父はフランク・シナトラだが、彼女が10歳のときに両親は離婚し、母親と生活することになる。
1960年、父フランク・シナトラの後押しで芸能界デビュー。
1961年、デビュー曲「カフスボタンとネクタイピン（Cuff Links And A Tie Clip）」を発表。
1966年、「にくい貴方（These Boots Are Made For Walking）」が世界的なヒットとなり、以後発表する曲はほとんどがヒット・チャート入りする。
